Agreed about poor Spidey 3. There was potential, but I've never seen the doubling-up-on-villains thing really work well in superhero films. (Well, ok, "The Dark Knight" did it sort of well...well enough to please many viewers, anyway. And Batman isn't really "super." ;-D Which is why I like him.) Lots of good stuff, with that one fatal flaw.

"Airbender" on the other hand...doesn't seem to have anything going for it, except for the underlying mythos, which seems to be the only thing that has survived intact from the original. I guess it speaks to the strength of the source material.

Hi Jackie,
Thanks for the comment. There was indeed a gigantic drop off over the weekend, with Airbender down almost 60%, the highest drop of the top 10 movies. I also really liked your comparison to Spider-Man 3. Something I wanted to add, that movie also had some pretty bad storytelling going on. Trying to fit the whole Venom story into one movie was a pretty bad idea.

All signs point to no.

There has been a significant drop off, as is only to be expected with a mediocre film that debuted during a long holiday weekend with appallingly hot weather. Now that the weather has cooled, the holiday is over, and the word has gotten out, far fewer people are making the effort, and this does not bode well for the appx $560 million this film needs to make overall to recoup it's huge production and ad costs.

Note: the film has been out for nearly two weeks, and has made a bit more than $100 million. Compare "Spider Man 3," (a franchise with a long history and much worldwide fame) which made $151 million its opening weekend and was still considered a poor enough performer to warrant a full reboot and recast.

Patrick gets a 5 star for his review because i just finished watching Book 3 Fire of the Avatar cartoon series yesterday with my kids

To celebrate with the kids we went to watch The Last Airbender as i promised (Snoozefest) i couldn't stop laughging and dozing off from time to time in the theatre

The actors were so nevery and emotionless Aang had no facial expression just a frown from time to time or a look of cluelessness

My kids kept asking me Daddy-Wake-Up-Questions why is Aang always sad and quote not "playee" aka playfull why does Katara look quote "weird" her hair is wrong. Sokka isn't funny as he is in the cartoon.

Kids notice every little detail like Aang's eyes didn't light up when he meditates and Momo being ingcognito at the start it was like no one knew each other

The only part they found funny was Sokka getting Iced by Katara and Sokka kicking a Fire warrior down below lol Dev Patel (Prince Zoku) doesn't suit playing a bad guy Zuko's Uncle is useless in the movie just like in the cartoon but in the cartoon he's funny and very powerful

did 150 million really get spent on the movie i wonder what on (3D/Visual/Special Effects)

In all the acting made this a poor movie it made kids sad even with victory at the end for the Northern water tribe many kids and adults didn't get what they expected or understood, Aang makes you smile because of how he is playfull ans silly sometimes Sokka adds to it because he's sarcasticly funny and Katara is just a brave hard headed warrior princess who fights no matter who even with her brother and messes up her water bending from time to time

And from time to time you get good live action movies Superman, Spiderman and from time to time you get bad live action movies Dragon Ball Evolution, The Last Airbender
